VISION

At Carpenter Community Charter, our vision is to provide an academically challenging program that not only meets academic standards and helps every child realize their full potential, but fosters critical thinking, independence and creativity – and gives our students the 21st century skills they need to succeed in an everchanging world. Carpenter Community Charter will build a model of excellence in public education through a learning program that:

  • Infuses music, dance, arts, and technology into traditional, standards-based curriculum to provide a rich experience for all of our students.

  • Includes hands-on, investigative learning with indoor and outdoor science labs, media labs, and special offsite field work.

  • Places an emphasis on multi-disciplinary, project-based learning that encourages our children to make connections between the curriculum and the real world – and creates life-long learners.

  • Provides a solid foundation in communication skills that people use everyday –such as solving problems creatively, critically thinking, working cooperatively in teams and independently and utilizing technology effectively.

  • Emphasizes social and community values that foster self-esteem and respect for each other.

  • Meaningfully involves all stakeholders – parents, students, faculty, administration, and local community partners – in the continuous improvement and success of the school.

  • Develops and advances best practices for engaging students and parents, training teachers, and promoting educational excellence, collaboration, and innovation

Walter Reed Middle School

School Mission and Vision

Walter Reed Middle School’s vision is to provide its students with the ability to read, write and speak clearly; access information in a variety of ways, and become critical thinkers, by practicing problem solving in academic and societal situations. Walter Reed practices standards based instruction in order to help all students achieve mastery of the California State Standards in each content area. Reed’s mission is for its community of parents and staff to work together to make the students responsible citizens. This is exemplified by student involvement in their multi-cultural community and their ability to resolve interpersonal conflicts. Reed holds certain beliefs about its students. Among these beliefs are the following:

  1. All Walter Reed students can learn and improve academic and personal skills.

  2. Every student can be taught to take responsibility for his/her own learning, while the school, family and community are partners in the educational development of the child.

  3. Every student can contribute to the school community and society at large.

  4. Every student can learn to appreciate and respect others and their differences.

  5. Each student is a unique individual and is capable of reaching his/her potential.
